Go , the oldest of known board games, is played by many Westerners who find in it subtleties and strategic insights not offered by chess
The Theory and Practice of Go is a classic; it is as eminent in its field as are Euclid's Elements in Geometry. New Geometrics exist, but the proper approach to understanding them still lies through Euclid; so it is with Korschelt's unique treatise. No book on Go has surpassed this work for sheer clarity and simplicity. Most books, in fact, have drawn heavily on Korschelt as their original source.
Korschelt's treatise was a first published in 1880 in a German magazine. The Editors have rescued it from ill-deserved obscurity, and in their translation have added numerous illustrative examples which were left out of the original edition for lack of space.
This exposition is the only comprehensive summary written by a Westerner of a distinguished Oriental space game.
