This is a book to introduce the reader the the ancient and fascinating oriental game of Go. Played throughout eastern Asia for thousands of years, it has captured the imagination of more game players than any other strategy game. Go is becoming increasingly popular in the western world. Written with the western reader specifically in mind, The Magic of Go will teach you the rules and strategy of this unique game. Besides telling you how to play, it contains essays about the world of Go to broaden your understanding and pique your interest. From history to modern tournament play, from traditional playing sets to computer Go, you'll find it in The Magic of Go.

The Magic of Go is the first book in a new series by the foremost Korean practitioner of the game, Cho Chikun. Cho began his professional study at the age of 6, becoming the youngest ever professional Go player at only 11. At the age of 24, he won the prestigious Meijin title, and is the only player to have ever held all four top Japanese titles at the same time. He is a strong contender in the first world championship of Go.

There's now a revised edition of this book published by Kiseido under the title Go: A Complete Introduction to the Game. See that entry for my comments on the book. There are no significant differences between the two editions, so there's no need to go out of your way to get the later edition rather than this one.
